Technically yes. Just not in games.

Red Knight Entertainment was conceived in the summer of 1996 to be used for a shareware game company.

The company was updated and logo concepted in 1997.

The company officially started as a small freelance business in 1998 on the side of my regular job.

I used RKE for all my freelance business over the next 8 years doing oddball logos, print, websites etc. In 2007 I finally got to use what it was originally intended for. Games. So yes, I have been around a good while, mostly doing just piddly poop chasing my dream.

So depending on how I feel when you ask me my company could have started in 96, 97 or 98. Imagined in 96, created in 97 and used in 98. More or less I consider 1997 since that is when the company 1st took visual form/planned function and I finally got a chance to use it in 1998. So it pretty much was totally made and ready in 1997. But don't quote me on that.
